I couldn’t wait any longer to share one of the delicious hibiscus cocktails with you…
Who loves Sidecars? I do! I do! Thanks to a friend for introducing these to me some years ago, I have delighted in them for quite a while. So the addition of hibiscus brandy in this cocktail was only logical. As I mentioned in the last post, citrus goes great with hibiscus…
Hibiscus Sidecar (serves two)
3 oz. Hibiscus Brandy
1 1/2 oz. Triple Sec
1 oz. Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
garnish of your choice
Combine all liquid in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously… strain into chilled glasses. Garnish of your choice (preferably citrus – we used a mandarin orange slice).
Delicious. Please give this a try…
Cheers!

That is a huge cocktail! My kind of drink. I flagged the hibiscus brandy earlier today as something I want to make. Before too long I will definitely be making this sidecar a reality. I’m really enjoying this blog, by the way. I’m a huge fan of DIY when it comes to cocktail ingredients,

Looks great. I love Sidecars, although my preferred ratio is the French 1:1:1.

I’ll try that ratio next time!

As far as sidecars go, I’m definitely more for the English style. Personally, I find the French ratio to be tremendously out of balance, but to each his own.
The over-abundance of acid masks the nuances of the other ingredients

Hi – I haven’t been trying to ignore your comments – I’m incompetent with WordPress comments while using my iPad. They seem to end up wherever they like.
I like the conviction in cocktail ratios! We need a taste test…

Indeed. I, myself, have tested on my own, but you should do so. Try a sidecar with 2 parts cognac and 1 part each lemon juice and Cointreau.
(I use an iPad as well. Sometimes commenting can get confusing but I’m getting used to it.)

Oh, your recipes and infusions look and sound so good! Glad I stopped by–I’ll definitely be checking you out in the future. Homemade boozy concoctions are one of my favorite things to make and, eh-hem, enjoy.

I just tried a version of this and it is delicious! I used one of my favorite teas, Tazo Passion, an herbal hibiscus tea. I tried a small batch. 1 cup brandy and I tea bag. After 3 days, it seemed flavorful enough. I also didn’t add any syrup. For my side car, I used grand marnier since I couldn’t find any triple sec in my stash, and only put in 1/2 plus oz. of lemon juice. For my next drink, I am just going to mix the brandy with lemonade.

Anne, that sounds great! Teas do infuse pretty quickly. (I just have something wrong with me compelling me to over infuse)
I like that tea as well, and would be an easy one for others to find if they didn’t want to go with straight hibiscus flowers. Thanks for the suggestion!
